OBJECTIVE
Stabilization of the railway track subgrade in the area of collapse of an underground structure (adit).
TECHNOLOGY
Soil improvement using controlled hydrofracturing (compaction grouting mode) with the PolyJET® injection method.
MATERIAL
PolyJet FT structural expanding polyurethane resin for soil injection, with a reaction time of less than 30 seconds.
DESCRIPTION
The collapse of underground structures resulted in the formation of zones of loosened and decompacted soil, creating a risk of railway track settlement.
Excavation works aimed at restoring the adit were further complicated by ground instability.
RESULTS
Dynamic probing (dynamic cone penetration testing) was performed to identify and localize the zones of subgrade loosening.
Injection works were carried out on site during scheduled rail traffic windows between train movements.
As a result of the injection process, the soil was densified and structurally bonded, which enabled the safe construction of a new adit and eliminated the risk of railway track settlement.
The works were executed without requiring approval for railway traffic stoppage.
The effectiveness of the soil improvement was confirmed by post-treatment geotechnical control investigations.
